Access All Areas Film Festival (AAAFF), traditionally a New South Wales-based festival, will screen for an anticipated 35,000 people in community venues, schools and large businesses across Tasmania, Victoria, Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland and Northern Territory throughout the summer of 2017/18.
The Bardic Studio is determined to get films reflecting the lived experience of people with disability in front of the largest audience possible.
“We are diminishing our own culture when we deny stories about the lived experience of disability in Australian national cinema, and when we make it tough for filmmakers with a disability to tell those stories”, Festival Director Jacqueline Cosgrove said.
“In Sydney alone, there are 200 film festivals each year. Most of them are cultural festivals. There is a thirst for new perspectives in cinema in this country why are we looking to the cinema of other countries to extend our own experience when we have a gold mine under our noses. I hope that the Access All Areas Film Festival shows young people with a disability that filmmaking is a valid career choice for them and sparks within them a passion to share their perspective with others. Australia really needs these films”
Four programs are offered in AAAFF 2017/18. The Main Program and Children’s Program are for public screenings in the community. A shorter version of the Main Program will screen privately within organisations for workers during lunchtime and a twenty-minute program has been offered to Primary schools. The AAAFF suite of accessible features has been expanded to include sensory screenings and flashing light free screenings, with a commitment to continue to add new accessible features each year.
